Some of the nearly 10,000 men deported to Buchenwald were teenagers.

The camp was ill-prepared to receive 10,000 new prisoners. The Jewish prisoners were placed in improvised housing, and were subjected to humiliation, harassment and violence. Several prisoners were murdered by the SS or died as a result of prison conditions. Most of the survivors, including almost all of the young people, were released after a few weeks. The goal of the Nazi regime was still to convince German Jews to emigrate by using violence and terror.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_height_percent=”0″ override_padding=”yes” h_padding=”3″ top_padding=”3″ bottom_padding=”2″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ column_width_percent=”100″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″ el_class=”postflow”][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”4/12″][vc_single_image media=”2112″ media_lightbox=”yes” media_width_percent=”100″ lbox_caption=”yes”][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h4″ text_size=”h4″ text_height=”” uncode_shortcode_id=”405546″]Jewish men in civilian clothing arrested after the November pogrom are lined up on the roll call area at the Buchenwald Concentration Camp, November 1938.[/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”184619″]Since there were only a few teenagers among them, they are not recognizable in this photo, that was taken by the SS.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text text_lead=”small” uncode_shortcode_id=”179544″](Buchenwald Memorial)[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space empty_h=”2″][/vc_column][vc_column column_width_percent=”100″ gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ width=”7/12″][vc_single_image media=”2113″ media_lightbox=”yes” media_width_percent=”100″ lbox_caption=”yes” el_class=”shatten”][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h4″ text_size=”h4″ text_height=”” uncode_shortcode_id=”304448″]Onlookers in front of the burning synagogue in Gottschedstraße in Leipzig, 10 November 1938.[/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”162775″]In November 1938, the National Socialists burned down synagogues throughout the German Reich. In many cases, a mob of onlookers gathered in front of the synagogues.

The excuse for the pogroms was the attack by a German-Polish Jew on a German diplomat in Paris. And there I saw all kinds of Jewish stores, where the shards of glass lay on the sidewalk, where the goods had been torn out of the shop windows.
